Shana Gilbert
Occupational Therapist
Shana is an Occupational Therapist, and has maintained her NBCOT certification and a Texas state license with the TBOTE since 1997. She earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Occupational Therapy at the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio in 1996.
Since graduating, Shana has worked in a variety of pediatric therapy settings; public and charter schools, daycares, nonprofit agencies, interdisciplinary outpatient clinics, and an autism diagnostic center. Her therapy experience includes collaboration with school district staff and monitoring educational based intervention in the classroom.
As well as, serving military dependents and their families at Lackland AFB, while providing hands-on training to the caregivers of the Child Development Centers. She has also facilitated developmental screenings for children residing in state-based shelters, arena based diagnostic assessments for children at risk for autism, parent training sessions/short courses to address autism specific concerns, and OT based professional staff development. Her intervention emphasis is incorporation of functional treatment environments, collaborative opportunities with peers, and hands-on parent training to encourage generalization of newly learned skills into everyday activities. She has a passion for addressing motor skill acquisition, play expansion, executive function, feeding, and promoting independence with daily tasks.
Shana and her husband Brad have been nurturing their furry “kids” together since September 2002. Outside of work, they enjoy kayaking local waters, baking, DIY home projects, and traveling abroad.
